About Us
Repairable products follow this line, there is no limit to failures.
Chet Haibel has been in New Product Development all his professional life.  His first 18 years were spent “learning by doing” as an R&D Engineer, Project Leader, and Program Manager on a wide variety* of products.  Except for a “small business sabbatical” with a successful startup venture, all this took place at three different Hewlett-Packard divisions.

When reliability became an emphasis, Chet moved to being Reliability Engineering Manager of HP Disk Drives and was instrumental in HP’s surpassing the 10X improvement goal in disk reliability in the 1980’s.  This was done by learning from the Japanese and then innovating superior, World Class reliability methods, culminating in HP offering a free, five-year warranty on disk drives on May 16, 1989.

The challenge then moved to accelerating product development to cut break even time by 50% without any loss in quality and reliability.  From his vantage point in Quality and Reliability Engineering, Chet has worked with many R&D projects in computer peripherals and lately medical devices.  He has been able to experience much more of the agony and ecstasy of new product development than most would ever see in their lifetime.  As a student of product development, Chet has observed the critical factors that really count in trimming schedules and launching winning products.

Chet has learned there is no inherent contradiction between Quality and Reliability on one hand and rapid product development on the other – providing the right “methodology” is followed.  He has formulated this “methodology” experimentally around medium-to-high volume electro-mechanical products, taking into account current Good Manufacturing Practices / ISO 9001 systems.

Chet has Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering and Master of Engineering degrees, both from Cornell University.  He is a senior member of the American Society for Quality and is certified by ASQ as a Reliability Engineer, Quality Manager, Quality Engineer, Software Quality Engineer, Quality Auditor, and Biomedical Auditor.  Chet is certified by Johnson and Johnson as a Six Sigma Green Belt.
